AMFG Joins the Secure Distributed Additive Manufacturing Alliance
AMFG will share its expertise in establishing secure and automated AM workflows with MES software
LONDON, UK, Wednesday 5 May 2021 — AMFG, a leading provider of MES and workflow automation software for additive manufacturing (AM), announced today that the company has joined the Secure Distributed Additive Manufacturing (SDAM) research project as an additive MES and workflow software expert.
The SDAM Alliance is a global community of AM experts that aims to define and develop solutions for distributed AM to accelerate its adoption.
Many processes in AM remain manual today, like data collection and exchange, posing security risks. For example, sending design files via email and downloading them on the local computer can create a security breach, putting data at risk of unauthorised access or disclosure.
To enable secure distributed AM, one of the key requirements for companies will be to establish a seamless data flow with the help of a secure digital thread.
As a research partner, AMFG will contribute to the SDAM project by providing its expertise in workflow automation, digitisation and connectivity. The company will participate in a range of workshop sessions to share its knowledge and experience in:
- Setting up a digital inventory for secure storage of files and production data;
- Integrating MES software with AM systems for secure data transfer directly to AM systems;
- Establishing automated and traceable AM production workflows;
- Ensuring secure data exchange between production centres and manufacturing partners.
Sven Hinrichs, Research and Development Manager at AMFG, says:
“While still in the early stages, distributed AM is going to be an essential part of the manufacturing landscape. I believe that security and automation are the two key factors that will help accelerate the adoption of distributed AM. We’re excited to join the SDAM Alliance and become a part of the global community that will drive the future of secure distributed additive manufacturing.”
