Act’Sole – Supportive and Durable Platforms for Pointe Shoes.
HP’s Multi Jet Fusion and recyclable TPU revolutionizing the construction of pointe shoes.
Description
Using HP's pioneering Multi Jet Fusion Technique, which has a range of printers for various 3D printing needs, Act'able, a German based company, were able to create 3D printed ballet shoes. By using advanced materials (TPU), which is 100% recyclable, they were able to design and produce various iterations of prototype shanks and platforms for pointe shoes that do not soften or become uneven. These prototypes have since become a key part of Act’Sole and have given their point shoes a lifespan 5 times longer than traditionally manufactured options. The geometry of Act'Sole allows for the shoe to be ready for use immediately, without a ‘breaking in’ process. The modular design and system, facilitated by the use of Multi Jet Technology means broken parts themselves can be replaced rather than the whole shoe. Not only does this reduce waste but makes general repair and upkeep a simpler process. By using 3D printing in the construction of the Act’Sole, Act’ble were able to design and manufacture a shoe with increased flexibility, whilst ensuring stability for joint support.
