Hoet 3D prints titanium to create their unique eyewear frames

Description

The Belgian family-owned company, established in 1884, has achieved remarkable success through its innovative HOET couture eyewear, a pioneering design conceived by Patrick Hoet (father) and Bieke Hoet (daughter), founders and designers of Hoet Design Studio. This groundbreaking eyewear is made of full titanium and combinations of titanium and Polyamide. Differentiated by a unique design language the HOET frames are recognizable by the open structures that varies per model. When using only classical production techniques, it is nearly impossible to achieve similar frames. The key to realizing this exceptional classic design lies in the utilization of the EOS M 290 printer and EOS Titanium Ti64 as the foundational material. Titanium is the preferred choice for eyewear frames due to its exceptional blend of flexibility, strength, and lightweight properties. Central to this achievement is the incorporation of 3D printing technology, which not only provides unparalleled design possibilities but also aligns with eco- friendly principles by minimizing waste material. This approach promotes sustainability as Hoet manufactures eyewear precisely to meet demand, ensuring they never have surplus or shortfall in stock. Furthermore, it enables them to swiftly respond to consumer trends, such as increasing production of popular colors or adjusting shapes to accommodate subtle shifts in preferences. An essential advantage of 3D printing is its ability to expedite the transition from conceptualization to mass production. Whereas traditional techniques often necessitate a lengthy six-month journey from ideation to production-ready design, 3D printing can reduce this timeline to as little as one month. The company takes great pride in their COUTURE collection, which is crafted from titanium through 3D printing, and their COSTUME collection, which combines titanium with the SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) process.
