Product designer Michele Di Carlo has pioneered a groundbreaking concept in footwear with his creation, the 4Steps series of 3D-printed sneakers. Crafted specifically for children aged 6 to 14, these innovative shoes boast unrivaled customization and adaptability. The core idea behind 4Steps lies in its ability to evolve alongside growing feet, accommodating up to five different shoe sizes. Remarkably lightweight at just 123 grams, these sneakers owe their feather-light feel to meticulously designed molded parts featuring a honeycomb structure. It lightens the weight while maintaining a strong frame and ensures a free position of the foot, allowing children to move freely and comfortably. Di Carlo's brainchild addresses a pressing issue in the footwear industry: the staggering amount of shoe waste generated by children outgrowing their footwear. The modular design of 4Steps allows for effortless disassembly and replacement of parts, facilitating both recycling and repair efforts. Utilizing Filafex filament, renowned for its softness and durability, Di Carlo has brought his vision to life in prototyping form.
