Peri 3D, KRAUSGRUPPE, and Heidelberg Materials collaborate to construct Europe’s largest 3D-printed building

Europe’s Architectural Marvel: The Largest 3D-printed Building Redefining Skyline Innovation

KRAUSGRUPPE, along with PERI 3D Construction and Heidelberg Materials, collaborated to construct Europe's largest 3D-printed building. Spearheaded by KRAUSGRUPPE, a multifaceted entity involved in project development, construction, investment, real estate management, and brokerage in the Heidelberg region, this ambitious endeavor was in partnership with PERI 3D Construction, renowned for its pioneering work in 3D construction printing, and Heidelberg Materials, a leading global building materials company. Situated in Heidelberg the project marked a significant milestone, particularly following the renovation of the Campbell Barracks. This endeavor symbolized a paradigm shift in construction technology, showcasing the potential of 3D printing to revolutionize the industry. Commissioned by Heidelberg IT Management GmbH & Co. KG, a prominent cloud and data center provider, the building became a groundbreaking testament to the capabilities of 3D construction printing. Spanning approximately 54 meters in length, 11 meters in width, and 9 meters in height, the building serves as an IT server hotel, embodying cutting-edge technology and innovation. PERI 3D Construction, leveraging its expertise in the field, oversaw the 3D printing process, utilizing COBOD's BOD2 3D construction printer to create the building's walls. With the printer's high-speed capabilities, PERI aimed to complete the wall printing within a remarkable timeframe of 140 hours, equivalent to printing four square meters of building per hour. This endeavor represented a collaborative effort to push the boundaries of construction technology and create a landmark structure in the region. Dr. Fabian Meyer-Brötz, the managing director of PERI 3D Construction, commented on the project, “We are very proud to have realized our largest building to date with this project. Not only because of the size of it, but in particular due to the special shape and the parametric design used, which documented the immense design freedom of COBOD’s technology.”
