Revolutionary Net Zero Energy Home: Emergent and Woodbury University Architecture Students collaborate with COBOD for Historic 3D Printing Achievement

Building a sustainable future layer by layer: Welcome to the era of 3D-printed net zero energy homes.

Description

COBOD joined a revolutionary project of Emergent and Woodbury University students for contribution to the future of architecture with a groundbreaking innovation: 3D-printed homes. LA's first 3D-printed net zero house, The Solar Future, was completed by Woodbury University students in collaboration with Emergent. The printer can be configured to individual projects according to the different building measurements and designs. Consequently, the walls of the 425 square-foot (40 m2) house, were executed in just 15 hours using COBOD International's BOD2 construction 3D printer. Concerning the materials, Emergent utilized a combination of traditional construction materials, including cement, sand, gravel, water, with D.fab solution, developed by COBOD in collaboration with CEMEX. The D.fab solution enables up to 99% of the materials to be sourced locally. The Solar Futures House has a gently curving concrete form equipped with a generous porch and a dramatic sloping roof. Moreover, slender, carefully staggered floor-to-ceiling windows gently illuminate the interior. In addition, the home’s bending form and sloped roof are designed to respond to the angle of the sun over the course of the year, thereby maximizing the generation of solar power. Donald Ajamian, CEO of Emergent, commented on the project: "The Solar Futures House demonstrates the potential of 3D construction printing and its advantages for the industry. By partnering with COBOD International and leveraging their automation technology, we are not only building homes but also leading the way towards a more sustainable future".
